ApertureThe aperture is a hole in the camera that lets different amounts of light in depending on the size at which it is set. A smaller number means that the aperture will be bigger. When the aperture is bigger it gives the image a shallow depth of field. A bigger number means that the aperture will be smaller.
ISO is how respondent the camera is to light. ISO is measured in numbers that start at 100 and are multiplied by two each time. The higher the number, the less light that is needed to create a photo with good lighting. However, a higher number also means that the photo will have more grain.
|
Shutter SpeedThe shutter is a piece of the camera that can stay open for different amounts of time to let different amounts of light into the camera. The amount of time that the shutter stays open is called shutter speed. A higher number means that the shutter will stay open for a longer amount of time. A lower number means that the shutter will stay open for a shorter amount of time. The longer the shutter is open the brighter the image will be because the more time the light has to come in.

White BalanceWhite balance is what the camera thinks is white. Unlike the aperture and shutter speed, white balance is not represented through numbers. Instead, the white balance can be chosen in the menu, and is shown by the different types of light that may be shining on the white.

ISOISO is how bright the camra makes the image. The ISO starts at 100 and doubles as it goes up. A higher number means that less light is needed to take a picture. A lower number means that more light is needed. However, a higher number also means that the photo will have more grain.
